Lisa Hagström

Lisa Hagström, born in 1986 in Stockholm is a hand weaver and textile artist. She is educated at Nyckelviksskolan (Stockholm), Kawashima Textile School (Kyoto) and Handarbetets Vänner in Stockholm where she graduated in 2017. Since high school where she studied fashion design and tailoring Lisa has been working with several different textile techniques, such as textile printing and knitting, but after her exam from Handarbetets Vänner she works exclusively with weaving and dyeing. Lisa started her master studies in textile craft at Konstfack in the autumn 2025 and was recently awarded a Journeyman's Certificate in the Handweaving profession.

I work as a painter
My canvas are yarns winded on spools and bobbins
I calculate my way forward
I read the yarn, How gravity and movement affects the single thread

The transformation,
from a fine thread, then side by side, stacked
Merging to a new form of matter
The thread, no longer significant
A surface appears from a blank nothing
The weave, definitive, fully painted from its becoming
Weightless thread, weighty is the weave

My work is born from memories and dreams of textile materials,
The Perception of a thread in my hand,
a never fading source of energy and passion

Hidden and seen
Dyeing and reservoir techniques are typical components in my expression
Shadows and light
My colors, the sum of the balance between the effects brof contrasts and
the harmony and soothing of monochrome and analog colors.
